Volunteer to be a Snow Angel

Because helping your neighbors is SNOW much fun!

You can sign up online to offer help as a volunteer. The Snow Angels Program will pair you with a nearby neighbor. We will contact you when you have been matched with a neighbor in need.

*We will begin accepting volunteer registrations on October 1, 2026 for the 2026-2027 snow season.

Things to Know about Signing Up to Volunteer as a Snow Angel:

  • You are committing to assisting the neighbor in need for an entire snow season, beginning in the late fall and ending in the spring (Dec – March).
  • We ask that you help out your neighbor as soon as you are able and within 24-hours of the end of a snow event of two (2) inches or more.  
  • We ask that you are 14 years of age or older (younger children must be accompanied by an adult at all times).
  • You will be assigned to a neighbor in need who lives no more than a 10-minute walk from your address unless you volunteer to travel further than one mile.
  • We will contact you via email with confirmation details when you have been assigned a neighbor.
  • You may not be assigned to help a neighbor immediately. Neighbors request help throughout the winter season. You may be assigned immediately, a few weeks after you sign up, or later during the winter.
  • Your assignment depends on if there is a neighbor who needs help near you. If none of your neighbors sign up, we may not be able to assign you. We may contact you to give you other options. Either way, we will keep in touch regularly!
  • Sometimes more than one neighbor who needs help lives in the same block. If you’re willing to help shovel and for more than one neighbor, please let us know on your registration form.

This Snow Angels Program Application Agreement (this "Agreement") is created and effective as of the date of the APPLICANT's signature on this Agreement.

WHEREAS, the Snow Angels Program is the Batavia United Way’s (the "BUW") snow removal service for older neighbors, veteran neighbors, and neighbors with disabilities, who do not have the means to remove their own snow (the “Service”);

WHEREAS, APPLICANT has applied to BUW for participation in the Snow Angels Program as a volunteer to provide the Service; 

NOW THEREFORE, the undersigned APPLICANT hereby acknowledges and agrees as follows: 

I. SNOW ANGELS REQUIREMENTS AND RULES

  1. APPLICANT certifies APPLICANT is 18 years of age or older.  If APPLICANT is under 18 years of age, APPLICANT must provide written Parental Consent and submit to Batavia United Way.  All APPLICANTS under the age of 14 must be accompanied by an adult over the age of 18.  
  2. APPLICANT certifies that APPLICANT is physically capable of removing snow from a property.
  3. APPLICANT understands that the only service provided will be snow removal.
  4. APPLICANT understands that the APPLICANT’S participation in the Snow Angels Program shall not include any interactions or communications with the recipient of the Service except to the extent necessary to perform the Service.
  5. APPLICANT also understands that the Service requires no entry inside the residence of the recipient of the Service, and APPLICANT shall not enter the inside of the residence of the recipient of the Service for any reason.
  6. APPLICANT agrees to treat any and all Snow Angels recipients with dignity and respect, or risk exclusion from the Snow Angels Program at the complete discretion of BUW.


II. RELEASE & HOLD HARMLESS

  1. APPLICANT agrees to assume all risk of injury, harm, or damage to APPLICANT’s person or property which may arise as a result of the performance of the Service and does hereby release and agree to indemnify and hold harmless Batavia United Way, its agents, officers, and employees from any and all liability actions, damages, and claims of any kind and nature whatsoever for injury or harm that might arise in connection with the use of the Service.
  2. APPLICANT further agrees that this Section II of this Agreement is intended to be as broad and inclusive as is permitted by the law of the Commonwealth of Illinois and that if any portion thereof is held invalid, it is agreed that the balance shall, notwithstanding, continue in full legal force and effect.
  3. APPLICANT further agrees that no oral representations, statements, or inducements apart from this Agreement have been made.

 

I hereby acknowledge and agree that participation in this program includes rigorous physical activity including shoveling snow and other physical activity which includes but is not limited to bending, walking, squatting, and lifting, often in cold and icy temperatures. I acknowledge that I am in good physical condition to participate in this program and have no known medical conditions that would affect my ability to participate in the program safely. 

IN WITNESS WHEREOF APPLICANT or APPLICANT’s duly authorized representative has agreed to this Agreement.
