At Batavia United Way, we are committed to making a lasting difference in our community. One of the ways we do this is by supporting organizations that empower individuals through education and skill development. We are proud to support Literacy Volunteers Fox Valley through our Community Impact Grant, a partnership that is making significant strides in adult literacy.

Literacy Volunteers Fox Valley helps adults read, write, speak, and understand English by matching them with trained volunteer tutors in one-to-one settings. This personalized approach allows adult learners to gain the confidence and skills necessary to pursue their personal goals, meet their families’ financial needs, and actively contribute to our community.

The Community Impact Grant provided by Batavia United Way is instrumental in advancing the mission of Literacy Volunteers Fox Valley. Here’s how our funding is being put to work:

• Enhancing Tutor Support: The volunteer tutors at Literacy Volunteers Fox Valley are dedicated individuals who generously give their time and expertise. Our grant enables the organization to provide comprehensive training, continuous lesson planning advice, and personalized coaching to these tutors. This support ensures that they can deliver high-quality instruction to their students.
• Empowering Adult Learners: With our funding, Literacy Volunteers Fox Valley can support about three adult students residing in Batavia. This support includes matching students with the right tutors and providing the resources needed for effective learning. The result is a group of empowered individuals who are better equipped to achieve their aspirations and contribute to the community.

Supporting one tutor/student pair for a year costs Literacy Volunteers Fox Valley approximately $500. This includes:

• Tutor Training: Ensuring tutors are well-prepared to teach.
• Student Matching: Pairing students with the most suitable tutors.
• Ongoing Support and Coaching: Providing continuous guidance to maintain effective learning.

Our grant covers these costs for multiple tutor/student pairs, directly enhancing the organization’s ability to serve more individuals in our community.
