In the heart of Batavia, creativity and imagination flourish within the walls of Water Street Studios. A vibrant art hub, Water Street Studios believes in the transformative power of the arts and is committed to making it accessible to everyone, especially those facing economic challenges. Thanks to the unwavering support of Batavia United Way, Water Street Studios is expanding its reach and impact, ensuring that the arts become an integral part of the lives of under-resourced families in the Fox River Valley.
A Gateway to Art for All
Water Street Studios understands that to truly appreciate the arts, they must be experienced in person. However, for many under-resourced families, the barriers to entry are substantial. Limited options and availability often prevent them from prioritizing the arts for themselves and their families. Water Street Studios is on a mission to change that narrative by making the arts accessible to at-risk children and adults.

Empowering Collaboration
One significant stride in achieving this mission comes from the generous grant provided by Batavia United Way. This funding enables Water Street Studios to collaborate with organizations like Mercy Housing, bringing art education to children and families residing in this facility. The impact of this collaboration is profound, fostering creativity, self-expression, and personal growth within these communities.
Diverse Programs and Scholarships
Through the support of Batavia United Way, alongside other grants and private philanthropy, Water Street Studios can offer scholarships to students in need, ensuring that financial barriers do not hinder artistic pursuits. The studio also conducts off-site programming, customizing services for individuals with sensory sensitivities and learning differences. Furthermore, specialized programs for libraries, senior centers, park districts, and other facilities broaden the reach of the arts in the community.

Subsidizing Resident Artists
Water Street Studios recognizes the invaluable contribution of resident artists to the community. The grants from Batavia United Way enable the studio to subsidize resident artists, supporting their impact on the community through public art, excellence in teaching, and exhibiting free, professional art in award-winning galleries. This not only empowers local artists but also enriches the cultural fabric of the Fox River Valley.
Funds in Action
The funds granted by Batavia United Way translate directly into tangible opportunities for under-resourced families. For instance, $80 provides art supplies for one class with 12 to 15 students, $100 covers the cost of instruction from an experienced teacher per session, and $50 facilitates the curriculum and planning for one session. These figures represent more than monetary values; they signify the empowerment of individuals through art.
The partnership between Batavia United Way and Water Street Studios exemplifies the transformative potential when community organizations come together to make the arts accessible to all. Through grants, scholarships, collaborative initiatives, and volunteer support, Batavia United Way is instrumental in creating a more inclusive and vibrant cultural landscape in the Fox River Valley. The impact is not just seen in the studios or galleries but in the lives of individuals and families who now have the opportunity to explore, create, and thrive through the power of the arts.
