In the heart of the Tri-Cities, Elderday Center, Inc. stands as a beacon of support for senior adults facing mild to moderate cognitive and/or physical challenges. For 33 years, this essential organization has been providing Adult Day Care services, offering a lifeline to seniors and their families. The pivotal role that Elderday plays in the community is further strengthened by the benevolent support it receives from Batavia United Way through their community impact grants.

Elderday Center is dedicated to serving senior adults by providing therapeutic daily activity programs, creating a structured and supportive environment. With a capacity for up to 35 participants at their Batavia location and 20 at their new Elgin location, Elderday caters to the specific needs of seniors with memory loss, ensuring they remain socially and physically active.

Seniors dealing with memory loss are susceptible to wandering, exposing themselves to potential injuries and hazards. When left alone, they face risks such as poor nutrition, medication mismanagement, loneliness, isolation, depression, and anxiety. The dedicated team at Elderday Center works tirelessly to mitigate these challenges, offering a holistic approach to care.

Batavia United Way recognizes the invaluable service provided by Elderday Center and stands alongside them in their mission. Through community impact grants, Batavia United Way has provided crucial financial support that directly translates into tangible benefits for seniors in need. The breakdown of the grants showcases the scope of impact:

$760: A month’s worth of therapeutic services (8 days) for one Batavia resident.

$500: Six months of meals (48) for one Batavia resident.

$50: One month of Reminisce Therapy for one Batavia resident.

These grants ensure that the Elderday Center can continue its vital work, making a difference in the lives of seniors and their families. The therapeutic daily activities and support services offered by Elderday contribute significantly to the quality of life for both seniors and their family caregivers.

Elderday Center encourages community involvement to enhance its programs further. Individuals or groups with therapeutic skills, such as music, art, yoga, or storytelling, are invited to share their gifts with the participants. Additionally, Elderday seeks volunteers to serve as room and activity aides, allowing individuals to contribute their time and make a meaningful impact. Batavia United Way will be running a collection drive March 4, 2024 – March 14, 2024 to help supplement the recreational activities at Elderday. Please drop off any classic games or 60-100 piece puzzles at Batavia Chamber (106 W. Wilson St.) and we will deliver!

In the tapestry of community support, Batavia United Way’s commitment to Elderday Center weaves a story of compassion, resilience, and shared responsibility. Through the generous community impact grants, Batavia United Way ensures that Elderday continues to be a cornerstone for seniors facing cognitive and physical challenges. Together, they create a ripple effect of positive change, fostering a community where every senior can age with dignity, purpose, and the support they deserve.
