At Batavia United Way (BUW), we believe in the power of community support to foster a healthier, more vibrant society. One of our annual contributions is the community impact grant awarded to the Association for Individual Development (AID), located in Aurora and serving the greater Fox Valley area. This grant empowers AID to continue their invaluable work in enhancing the lives of individuals with mental health challenges through comprehensive behavioral health, nutrition, and employment programs.
About AID: Comprehensive Support for Individual Development
The Association for Individual Development (AID) is a resource of hope and support for individuals with mental health challenges. Their Comprehensive Behavioral Health, Nutrition, and Well-being program is dedicated to promoting both physical and mental health literacy. By offering education and support, AID ensures that individuals are equipped with the knowledge and tools necessary to lead healthier lives.
Additionally, AID’s Employment First program plays a crucial role in helping clients secure sustainable community jobs and careers. This initiative not only matches individuals with employment opportunities but also emphasizes the importance of benefits and the potential for career advancement.
Serving over 5,700 children and adults, AID operates community day centers in Elgin, Aurora, Batavia and Yorkville; mental health outpatient clinics throughout the Fox Valley; supports over 500 individuals living in their own apartments; and more than 200 individuals in group homes scattered throughout the greater Fox Valley.
The Importance of Local Funding
Local funders like Batavia United Way are essential to the success of AID’s programs. While state funds and other revenue sources cover many expenses, there are critical services that fall outside their scope. This is where BUW’s funding steps in, filling the gaps and ensuring that AID can provide comprehensive support to those who need it most.
Batavia UW funds support services that are vital to helping individuals live their best lives, realize their potential, and participate fully in their communities. Specifically, BUW funding is allocated as follows:
- Employment Services: 75 hours of additional employment services for individuals working in the community who need long-term support (each service hour is $40.67).
- Behavioral Health and Nutrition: 63 hours of nursing and nutritional education support (each service hour is approximately $45)
